  • 2 large onions, finely chopped Fresh onions are best for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh chives (optional, for garnish) For garnish

Instructions
 

Cooking Onions

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  • Once the onions have caramelized, let them cool for a few minutes before adding to the sour cream mixture.
  • Stir everything until well combined.

Chilling

  • Chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with chopped chives just before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the dip chill longer, preferably overnight. Add cayenne pepper for a kick. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-5 days.
