Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened for easy mixing.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar. Then, add the molasses, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to firm up.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.
  • Let them cool on a wire rack and decorate as you like!

Notes

To keep your Gingerbread Men fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months. Get creative with decorations using icing, sprinkles, or candies!
