Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Topping

  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Chocolate glaze (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until they are well combined.
  • In another bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!

Frying

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to about 375°F (190°C).
  • Use a donut cutter to cut out shapes from the dough.
  • Fry the donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
  • Remove the donuts and let them drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Dust with powdered sugar, or dip in chocolate glaze and add sprinkles if you’d like.
  • Allow the donuts to cool slightly, then enjoy!

Notes

Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying. A small piece of dough should sizzle when added to the oil. Don't overcrowd the pot while frying; fry them in batches for even cooking. Experiment with different flavors by adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter for extra warmth. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days, or freeze them for longer storage.
