  • 6 slices 6 slices of bread, cut into cubes Use day-old bread for better texture.
  • 8 large 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup 1 cup cooked sausage, crumbled For a vegetarian version, omit the sausage and add more veggies.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup diced bell pepper Feel free to add your favorite vegetables.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup diced onion
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon mustard (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard if using.
  • In a greased baking dish, layer the bread cubes, followed by the sausage, bell pepper, onion, and cheese.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Baking

  • Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, cut into squares on a serving platter. Pairs nicely with fresh fruit, yogurt, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for a festive touch. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3-4 days. Reheat in oven or microwave until warmed through.
